Sarah Jessica Parker
Biography
Sarah Jessica Parker was born on March 25, 1965, in Nelsonville, Ohio, to Stephen Parker and Barbra Forste (who married Paul Forste after divorcing Sarah's father). Sarah's mother had four more children with Forste, so Sarah has three full siblings and four half siblings.
Trained in singing and ballet, Sarah Jessica Parker was cast in the Broadway production of The Innocents, which prompted her family to relocate to New Jersey. Already a professional performer (she studied at the American Ballet School and the Professional Children's School), Sarah Jessica Parker was cast in The Sound of Music (along with four of her siblings), and landed the lead in the Broadway run of Annie.

After a year as the free-spirited orphan, Sarah Jessica Parker attended Dwight Morrow High School while continuing to add more credits to her acting resume. She landed a role in the made-for-TV movie My Body, My Child before being cast as one of the lead roles in the 1982 sitcom Square Pegs, as high schooler Patty Greene.
Once a graduate, Sarah Jessica Parker decided to pursue a full-time acting career rather than further her education. Since Square Pegs didn't last more than a year, Sarah Jessica Parker moved on to supporting film roles in movies such as Somewhere Tomorrow (1983), Footloose (1984), Firstborn (1984), and the lead role in the teenage chick flick Girls Just Want to Have Fun (1985).

Sarah Jessica Parker was having lots of fun, although she had yet to land a star-turning role. After more television appearances in series and made-for-TV movies, including A Year in the Life, The Room Upstairs, Dadah is Death, and Equal Justice, Sarah Jessica Parker finally landed the role of Steve Martin's bubbly lover in the 1991 comedy L.A. Story.
More substantial film roles soon followed, starting with a role opposite Nicolas Cage in 1992's Honeymoon in Vegas (which foreshadowed her comedic talent), Hocus Pocus (1993), Striking Distance (1993), opposite Bruce Willis, and Ed Wood (1994). A big Woody Allen fan, she starred opposite the renowned filmmaker in the TV movie The Sunshine Boys in 1995 and that same year she landed a starring role in Miami Rhapsody.
1996 was a film intensive year with roles in The First Wives Clubs, If Lucy Fell, Extreme Measures, and Mars Attacks!. All the while making a name for herself in film, Sarah Jessica Parker was gaining respect as a theater actress, with her lead role as a dog (hard to imagine, but true) in the off-Broadway Sylvia and her Broadway roles in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (starring her present husband, Matthew Broderick), and the Tony-nominated Once Upon a Mattress.

However, Sarah Jessica Parker's star has shot up since her portrayal of Manhattan sex columnist Carrie Bradshaw in the HBO series Sex and the City, which was on the air from 1998 to 2004. The fact that she won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy Series four times, as well as the Emmy for Best Actress in a Comedy Series in 2004, only underscores the fact that she played the role of Carrie as though it were literally written for her. (By the way, the female singer she made out with on an episode of the show was Alanis Morissette).
During her stint on Sex and the City, Sarah Jessica Parker continued to appear on the big screen in movies like Dudley Do-Right (1999), State and Main (2000), and Life Without Dick (2001). Since Sex and the City went off the air in 2004, she has added Strangers with Candy (2005), The Family Stone (2005) and Failure to Launch (2006) to her resume.

She may have portrayed the role of single, man-hunting Carrie in the Emmy-winning Sex and the City, but Sarah Jessica Parker has been happily married to fellow actor Matthew Broderick, with whom she has a child, since 1997. She has had her share of famous lovers though, including Robert Downey Jr. (who she also lived with) and the late John F. Kennedy Jr.

To the delight of SITC fans everywhere, the hot foursome decided to reunite for the May 2008 release of Sex and the City the movie. With the biggest opening weekend to-date of any romantic comedy, Carrie Bradshaw and her best friends Charlotte (Kristin Davis), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Samantha (Kim Cattrall) returned, this time to the big screen.
Fashion industry
Parker is a fashion icon and has become very influential in the world of fashion. In 2000, she hosted the MTV Movie Awards and appeared in no fewer than 15 different costumes throughout the show.
She has also become the face of many of the world's biggest fashion brands through her work in a variety of advertising campaigns. In August 2003, Parker signed a highly lucrative deal with Garnier to appear in television and print advertising promoting their Nutrisse hair products. In 2004, she fronted an international campaign by Gap, but her contract with the clothing giant was abruptly terminated in spring 2005 in favor of British soul singer Joss Stone. A friend of Parker's commented to the press that, "Sarah's spring campaign for Gap has only just started, and she feels the announcement of her replacement in the same week that the new ads are appearing is a bit of a snub".
In addition to her advertising work, Parker released her own fragrance in 2005 called "Lovely". In March 2007, Parker announced the launch of her own fashion line, Bitten, in partnership with discount clothing chain Steve & Barry's. The line, which features hundreds of clothing items and accessories under $20, launched on June 7, 2007, exclusively at Steve and Barry's. In July 2007, following the enormous success of "Lovely," Parker released her second fragrance "Covet." In 2007 Parker was a guest on Project Runway for the second challenge.
Her other 2008 projects included Smart People with Ellen Page and the comedy A Family Affair.
