Crowd Trouble Mars Italy Clash

ITALY'S Euro 2012 qualifier against Serbia was abandoned last night because of crowd trouble.

The match was halted after just seven minutes in Genoa when Serbia fans threw flares on to the pitch.
When the game restarted more fireworks landed on the playing area — one just missing Italy goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano — forcing Scottish referee Craig Thomson to call off the game.
Kick-off had already been delayed by 45 minutes after some supporters tried to cut through fencing outside the ground.
Even before the delay, Serbia's normal starting goalkeeper, Vladimir Stojkovic, asked not to play following threats outside his hotel earlier, according to reports.
The match was meant to be played in memory of four Italian soldiers killed in Afghanistan on Saturday.
Italy coach Cesare Prandelli said: "I've never seen anything like it."
