Ten top movies of year 2010

We pick top ten movies of our choice. Interestingly, six out of the ten are directed by first time directors, which makes us feel more optimistic about the future of Bollywood films.

Ishqiya
Directed by a debutante director, Abhishek Chaubey, 'Ishqiya' talks of terrific performances by lead actors Arshad Warsi, Vidya Balan and Naseeruddin Shah, great writing and fantastic direction.And of course, brilliant music by Vishal Bharadwaj (who's also the producer of the film), all this makes 'Ishqiya' what it is.

Peepli Live
Another brilliant directorial debut. Produced by Aamir Khan and directed by ex-journalist Anusha Rizvi, 'Peepli Live' deals with farmer suicide casesin a satirical and witty way. The film, deservedly is India's entry into Oscars this year.

Udaan
Produced by Anurag Kashyap this sensitive film had Vikramaditya Motwane making his debut direction. 'Udaan' speaks about a lonely teenager's traumatic life as his father and he deal with their clash of personalities. The best part of the film, apart from direction and story are the poems as part of dialogues.

Love Sex aur Dhokha
A film directed by Dibakar Bannerjee, it has 3 stories talking about serious issues like honour killings, MMS scandals and sting operations. Released in March, 'LSD' stood out for its quirky direction and close to life plot.

Raajneeti
Prakash Jha's gritty film showing the ugly underbelly of politics, is loosely inspired from the epic Mahabharatha. A star studded film, 'Raajneeti' triumphs because of its fast paced story narration and some amazing performances by the likes of Manoj Bajpai ,Ranbir kapoor,Katrina kaif and Nana Patekar.

Robot
A mega budget movie, 'Robot' can easily be called the most exciting film of the year. A super duper success, 'Robot' stands on the able shoulders of the mega star Rajinikanth. Aishwarya provides the glamour. There was another star in the film, the breath-taking special effects.

Well Done Abba
A political satire, this simple and beautiful film is directed by veteran director Shyam Benegal. Touching performances by Boman Irani and Minissha Lamba

Dabangg
The best thing about this film produced by Arbaaz Khan is that it has no pretensions. Totally masala and not apologetic about it, 'Dabangg' belongs to Salman Khan. Salman has breathed life into the character of a corrupt police inspector Chulbul Pandey. The film is directed by first time director Abhinav Kashyap.

Tere Bin Laden
A satirical comedy, 'Tere Bin Laden' talks about US's paranoia for anything Islamic post 9x11. A debut direction by Abhishek Sharma.

Guzaarish
This film by Sanjay Leela Bhasali might have received a lot of criticism, but it had to be a part of top ten for the sheer beauty, music and an absolutely fantastic performance by Hrithik Roshan.

Priyanka rejects 3 Crore New Year Eve offer

Priyanka Chopra declined a plum offer of three crore rupees to perform at a suburban exclusive hotel on new year eve. The reason? Priyanka, who has been mostly out of the country, through the past one year, is looking forward to spend the new year with her immediate family.
The hotel near the domestic airport was apparently looking to outshine the others by roping in Priyanka, who would have become the most celebrated actor to perform on the year end.
However, their plans were dashed when the sexy actress flatly turned them down saying that she would rather be with her family even though the lure of money was too high. From now on, Priyanka has decided to be very selective about where she would perform.
Priyanka’s last big stage show was when she collaborated with celebrated singer Nelly Furtado. She has in between done stage shows but that has been for award ceremonies and not for private.

Now Katrina Kaif has joined them! Her "Sheila ki jawani" is the latest in a long line of raunchy numbers that have made top mainstream actresses shed their inhibitions to set the adrenaline pumping. Why, Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai have done it too.
"Sheila Ki Jawani" from Farah Khan's third directorial venture "Tees Maar Khan" has become quite popular even before the song was officially released. Its spicy lyrics and Katrina's sexy moves have struck a chord with the audience and the electrifying song is being frequently played on radio stations and television channels.
The lyrics in these item numbers are catchy - and they don't always make sense even if they are provocative.
"Lyrics are lyrics. No one should take them literally and seriously and analyse them in songs like these. If you believe you are doing something clean and keeping yourself in the boundaries of dignity, then the lyrics and mood of the song don't matter and you feel comfortable while performing it, " Katrina told.
"I enjoy my dancing. I don't know how technically good I am, but I like doing it and I enjoyed it, " she added.
"Sheila ki jawani" is on its way to giving competition to this year's most popular number "Munni badnaam hui" from "Dabangg". The song was picturised on Malaika Arora who earlier sizzled on the screen in songs like "Chhaiyan chhaiyan" and "Mahi we".
Item numbers are Hindi films' way of spicing up a film. Among mainstream actresses, it was Bollywood's dancing queen Madhuri Dixit who became perhaps the first to set the temperatures soaring with the sensuous item number "Choli ke peeche kya hai".
Later from Shilpa Shetty to Aishwarya Rai and from Kareena Kapoor to Priyanka Chopra, everyone followed suit.
"Earlier mainstream actresses were shown as very simple and docile. But the overall image is now changing and today they have become smarter and bolder and they would certainly not mind being a part of provocative song, " film critic Omar Qureshi told.
"However, many actresses agree to do an item number just for the sake of their friendship with actors or filmmakers, such as Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone and Kareena Kapoor in Shah Rukh Khan's 'Billu', " he added.
Aishwarya wowed the audience with her sensuous moves in "Ishq kamina" in "Shakti" and "Kajrare" in "Bunty Aur Babli".
Shilpa is still remembered for her scintillating dance in the song "Main aayi hun UP (Uttar Pradesh) Bihar lootne" in "Shool" and "Shut up and bounce" in Abhishek Bachchan-John Abraham starrer "Dostana".
Kareena Kapoor's "Yeh mera dil" in Shah Rukh Khan starrer "Don: The Chase Begins Again", Sushmita's "Mehboob mere" in "Fiza" and Urmila Matondkar's "Aa hi jaiye" in "Lajja" are still popular among people.
